Memory Eternal Erwin Kirchhoff

Remember, O Lord, the soul of Thy departed servant. Give, O Lord, to Thy servant, Erwin, eternal rest, and memory eternal!

Our Brother in Christ Erwin W. “Erv” Kirchhoff entered into his eternal rest on Saturday evening Feb. 28, 2009 at his son Keith’s home in Brookfield, WI. Erwin was 90 years old.

Erwin William Kirchhoff was born on Sept. 18, 1918 on the family farm in Mt. Prospect, IL. the son of the late George and Elsie Deeke Kirchhoff. On March 2, 1946 in Elk Grove Township, IL., he was united in marriage to Margaret Garlisch. She preceded him in death on Nov. 28, 2007. They lived in Mt. Prospect until moving to Genoa City in 1952.

Erwin served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945. He served in the South Pacific, New Guinea, the Philippines, and Japan. During the war Erwin was awarded several decorations including the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantryman Badge.

Although Erwin did many important and noteworthy things in his life, perhaps most precious in the sight of God was the constant loving care Erwin provided for his ailing wife Margaret during the last ten years of her life (See Ephesians 5:25-27 [show]Ephesians 5:25-27 [25]Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, [26]that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, [27]so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.(1) (ESV) Footnotes 1. [5:27] Or 'holy and blameless'

Psalm 116
I love the LORD, because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy.
Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.
The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered distress and anguish.
Then I called on the name of the LORD: “O LORD, I pray, deliver my soul!”
Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; our God is merciful.
The LORD preserves the simple hearted; when I was brought low, he saved me.
Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.
For you have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling;
I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living.
I believed, even when I spoke, “I am greatly afflicted”;
I said in my alarm,”All mankind are liars.”
What shall I render to the LORD for all his benefits to me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD,
I will pay my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people.
Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.
O LORD, I am your servant; I am your servant, the son of your maidservant. You have loosed my bonds.

Remember, O Lord, the soul of Thy departed servant. Give, O Lord, to Thy servant, Erwin, eternal rest, and memory eternal!
